Virtual Disk and Networkcard Hotplugging on virtual Guests

Virtual Hotplugging without reboot

if you attach some virtual resurces(for example a new disk in vmware) to a linux host, normally a reboot is required. with the following command a rescan of the pcibus is done and you don't need to reboot your system.

Simply send

echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan

now you are able to see the new harddisk or networkcard:

cat /proc/partitions

for your networkcard

ifconfig -a

now you are able to partitioning your harddisk as usual or expand your LVM
